Digital Detox and Product OVERLOAD!

I broke my own rules on my personal product detox challenge, BUT for good reason! I knew if I didn’t jump to immediately unsubscribing from all the email lists I would have ended up perusing each and everyone of them. I would then have also been tempted to maybe just buy one last thing before my detox began. Instead I ran upstairs, took a cold shower and then starting my frenzy of unsubscribing. And unsubscribing I DID, to the tune of 11 different email lists. Yes, your eyes weren’t failing you, I wrote 11! At first, I agonized over losing the opportunity to secure that great “deal”. It was akin to ripping off the proverbial band-aide, once initially down the pain eased quickly. Before long I was on a mission to make sure the purge of my email inbox was complete. So…goodbye Sephora emails with all dancing products. So long, Ulta and $3.50 coupon off any purchase of $15. I swear I could hear Adieu, adieu to you and you and you drifting from some far off mountain top. Okay, maybe I shouldn’t go that far but truly whole process took less than 5 minutes and my email inbox is already happier for it. Total upside I hadn’t even considered….the influx of emails dropped considerably. I think I just got 15 minutes of life back everyday now that I don’t have to read and/or delete all those. GO ME!!

Note to self – The digital detox needs to proceed why past the personal care vendors hawking their wares. I need to do a complete digital detox, more to come on that thought.

The Inventory

Next I started taking everything out my plastic containers and bins and lets face it hidey-holes.  It wasn’t pretty, pictured below is the entirety of my personal care products.   Had I emptied the bin with the make up I probably couldn’t have fit into a picture.   Just to get this picture I had to stand on a step stool and reach as high as could to capture it in one shot.

I made some surprising discoveries in my inventorying process.  First of all, I did not have 12 tubes of deodorant but I did have 13 tubes of toothpaste!  Check the box on toothpaste, this momma’s got it covered.  I decided that anything expired needed to be tossed out, cause I’m pretty sure Visine from 2011 isn’t something I should be putting in my eyes.

I also realized I was saving waayyyy to many things for special events, and frankly I had no idea when those special events were going to happen.    Enough of that, time to start!  Based on everything I found this is going to take me a while to get through.    I will however purge/sell/give away of few items.   Some of which are my perfumes, ever since I had my son 8 years ago, perfumes seem to give me a headache so they have got to go.   Wish me luck!
